About Me

     Namaste!  My name is Kalam Bahadur Gurung, married and with three children.  I grew up in Gorkha, Ghyalchok 7 where the magnificent Himalaya never hid its grandeur from my sight.  Seventeen years ago while studying in college, I met a person who introduced me to the lodge where he worked as cook.  From there on, I was hired as one of its staff starting as a captain in that lodge.  After two months of giving my best service, I was promoted to the managerial task.  For thirteen years, I worked as manager of the Hotel Thorong-la in Manang-8 and two years in Thorong Base Camp Lodge and Restaurant in Thorong Phedi, two of the most wonderful tourist stop overs while doing trekking in Nepal.  I got all the opportunities to meet the trekkers in the hotel and I began to see the need of offering them advice and guidance in trekking.  I took my Trekking Guide Training from Nepal Academy of Tourism and Hotel Management (NATHM).  Since I only worked in the hotels during the trekking season, for several occasions in five years I had the opportunity to work as a part time trekking guide which eventually honed my trekking skill. Now i am doing Bible translation work in Manangi language with Jon and Christy Grimes U.S.A. as well.

     I am a Christian and presently serving as a Elder/Pastor in the Family of God church in Saibu 8, Lalitpur.  God has opened the way for me to start working as a freelance independent trekking guide to clients who have the heart to explore Nepal particularly in the Himalayas.
